THE ENVIRONMENT

As global citizens, we all have a responsibility to protect and reduce our impact on the environment, local communities and biodiversity.

We, at Black Box Snacks, also recognise that we hold a responsibility to commercial sustainability which depends on both environmental and social responsibility. Therefore, we are committing to our Environmental Strategy and aiming to be an openly sustainable company.

 

INGREDIENTS

The demand for food is growing globally as the world’s population explodes. To meet this demand agriculture needs to increase yields without compromising the ability of future generations to provide for their food requirements. The answer to preserving our environment and stopping further damage to the ecosystem lies in sustainable farming – a system which is sustainable environmentally, socially and economically.

 

Sustainable farming means producing food, fibre, plant or animal products without harming natural resources and land and considering social responsibilities such as working and living conditions of farmers and workers, the needs of rural communities, and health and safety of the consumer both in the present and the future.

 

It takes into account economic viability and profitability and integrates it with environmental health and social and economic equity.

Ideally, sustainable farming meets the needs of the present generation without damaging the ability for future generations to meet their needs.

 

At Black Box Snacks, we take responsibility for all ingredients that we use meets the definition of sustainable farming and fishing (MSC/ASC-Certified). 
 

LEGISLATION

We will ensure that environmental regulations and laws fully comply and that codes of best practice are regarded as setting the minimum standards of environmental performance. Consideration for the environment will be integrated into our decision-making process, and we will work closely with our customers and suppliers to drive continuous improvements in our environmental performance and the prevention of pollution. We will manage effectively and improve where possible the externally accredited Environmental Management System to satisfy the BS EN 14001 standard.

 

DELIVERY

 

As a delivery service is in place, we are aware that the emission produced by fossil fuel-run vehicles is one of the significant contributors to the degradation of the planet. Therefore, in our efforts to try to be more environmentally friendly, we limit our deliveries to twice a week. Our smaller cars are propelled by electrical engines.

 

TRANSPARENCY
 

It is our ambition to enable the members of the supplier chain and their communities to achieve better incomes and living standards in a way that will accelerate progress towards a sustainable and transparent trade by focusing our investments and efforts across four priority areas.

 

1. Empower our  Producers and Suppliers

 

Provide training, coaching, and tools to support the best environmental and safe production practice, as well as the distribution of our products.

2. Strengthen Partnerships

 

Leverage Black Box Snacks' network to strengthen the close partnerships with suppliers to achieve a sustainable supply chain.

 

3. Improving production and harvesting practices

 

Develop accessible, responsible, resilient, and sustainable production and harvesting systems.

 

4. Community Support

 

Strengthen producers, farmers, and their communities, ensure no child or forced labor,  any kind of discrimination is not acceptable,  and break down barriers to economic empowerment.
